Greg Johnson initially studied architecture but later on decided music took precedent
The Greg Johnson set essentially formed out of the band the car crash set when car crash set disbanded (there was also another band Greg had formed for a very short period of time named This Boy Rob) Nigel Russell joined Greg and formed The Greg Johnson set which later was shortened to Greg Johnson
The Watertable (1991)
In 1993 he released an album by the name of Everyday Distortions this album had his first breakthrough single “Isabelle” hit the charts
Vine Street Stories in (1995) won the tui for Male Vocalist.
in 1997 he released the album Chinese Whispers which featured the singles as well as the Apra silver scroll winning song Liberty
Sea Breeze Motel which pitched us the singles Hibiscus song, Beautfiul Storm and my personal fave cut to the chase(2000)
When 2001 rolled around Greg collected some of his many great songs and compiled them onto an album entitled The Best Yet now normally when someone releases a Best of Album you think well that’s it no more from this artist but if you look into the title it was the best yet (meaning to date)this album also won Greg a tui for Best Compilation
In 2002 Greg relocated from NZ to Santa Monica
in 2003 Greg treated us to a four track Ep which later on down the line was titled the lost ep.

In 2009 Greg released another Greatest Hits album this time it collected some great songs from his albums post his best yet but included two new songs The Little Things and Right Where You Wanted Me as well as rerecords of three of his hit songs Swagger, Liberty and his hit song Isabelle, along with the hits he treated us to a second disc of B side tracks
'Secret Weapon' (2010)
In 2010 he started work on a secret weapon I mean album which ended up having the title secret weapon this album was a little different compared to previous albums from Greg in terms of it was actually funded by the fans who got the chance to prepay for the album
Another minor point I’d like to add is that Gregs tunes have appeared through out the years in numerous adds (cut to the chase was used in the pams ads with Jamie Oliver) tv shows (shortland street is the main one on the list along with outrageous fortune) even had songs appear in movies like last chance Harvey starring Dustin Hoffman
as of finishing this article Greg’s next album Exits is forthcoming on November 5th
